Enter as a Guest
Another person's life is not territory for the therapist to possess or redesign.
A way of approaching therapy that begins not with certainty, diagnosis, or a predetermined destination, but with relationship, curiosity, respect, and the willingness to walk beside another person through the landscape of their life.
A guest enters carefully. A guest does not take possession of the landscape. The therapist brings knowledge, experience, ethics, and responsibility — while remaining open to being taught by the person whose life is being encountered.
These are not rules for where therapy must go. They are reminders of how we might travel together.
Another person's life is not territory for the therapist to possess or redesign.
Before trying to remove a problem, become curious about how it came to be and what it may have meant.
People exist within family, history, relationships, culture, community, loss, possibility, and circumstance.
An invitation into one part of a person's life is not permission to enter every part.
Meaning changes. A story heard today may reveal something different when revisited in another season.
The therapist does not become the destination. The person's life remains their own.
The garden taught us something about attention. Beyond the gate, the same way of walking can accompany a person into the many landscapes of ordinary human life.
Beyond the Gate
Beyond the Gate is designed for the client and the WalkAbout Therapist to use together. It contains questions, reflections, large open spaces, invitations to draw or map experience, and pauses where nothing has to be solved.
You do not have to begin at the beginning. You do not have to visit every place. You may return, wander, leave something unanswered, or create a path that is not represented in the workbook.
The workbook follows the walk. The walk does not follow the workbook.
“Perhaps therapy is not about showing another person the correct way to live. Perhaps, for a while, someone simply walks with them.”
This section is intentionally ready for the next stage. Later it can become the entrance to your WalkAbout Therapist discussion community, client/therapist conversation space, or moderated topic group.
A Stripe-supported paid workbook, membership, course, or community option can also be added here when you are ready.
